Lady of Hay is Barbara Erskine's first published novel, which came out in 1986. Her second novel titled Kingdom of Shadows was a hit in my opinion. Kingdom of Shadows was the first book belonging to Barbara Erskine that I had ever read, as I was unable to obtain her first book anywhere at the time. Kingdom of Shadows had an unusual, gripping and amazingly intriguing story to it, which was set in Scotland. I rate it a 9 out of 10.
Lady of Hay is a chilling story about a a journalist named Jo. She investigates hypnotic regression. She has a regression hypnosis done on herself, which plunges her into the life of Maltida, Lady of Hay, who lived eight hundred years ago. The book goes back in time and we learn of Maltida's unhappy marriage and her troubled life of brutal treatment she received from King John. Jo's life, it seems, is entwined with her past life of Matilda. The story goes on to reveal how Jo deals with her regression.
