The Coronavirus in England

The coronavirus is a hellish mass panic for everyone.

Here in the UK, if one person is ill with coronavirus symptoms the whole family in that household has to isolate for 14 days. If you live on your own you need to isolate for 7 days but 14 days to be safer I think.

I think we should all get tested for coronavirus even if we have severe headaches that lasts longer than normal. So, now we have Covid-19 test kits from the government and we can easily get one if we need one from the government website in the UK.

These tests can now be given by the NHS if we contact NHS 111.

There is also the worry if someone at any age with underlying health conditions who contracts the coronavirus could be seriously very ill or even die from it. I know I wouldn’t want to get it as I am type 2 diabetic and also have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scoliosis, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

It’s a worry for those over 60 along with all people at any age with long term underlying conditions and now, pregnant women, which is worrying and newborn babies.

People with vulnerable health conditions have had to shield for 12 weeks in England because those people are at high risk of getting very ill will now end too, so what will happen to them. In my opinion, if you are worried, then make sure you don't go out or go near anyone just to keep yourself safe.

What are the long term ill-health conditions?

The World Health Organization (WHO) previously said but hadn’t included pregnant women at the time the following ill-health conditions:
“The virus that causes COVID-19 infects people of all ages. However, evidence to date suggests that two groups of people are at a higher risk of getting severe COVID-19 disease. These are older people (that is people over 60 years old); and those with underlying medical conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer). The risk of severe disease gradually increases with age starting from around 40 years. It’s important that adults in this age range protect themselves and in turn protect others that may be more vulnerable.”
A man of 45 years old who had motor neuron disease has died, so it's anyone with any kind of long term health condition that receives a Flu jab every year according to UK government website which has published this statement:
“We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures.
This group includes those who are:
aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)
under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (ie anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds):
chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
chronic kidney disease
chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy
diabetes
problems with your spleen — for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy
being seriously overweight (a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above)
those who are pregnant”
But then they also say this on their website:
“Note: there are some clinical conditions which put people at even higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19. If you are in this category, next week the NHS in England will directly contact you with advice the more stringent measures you should take in order to keep yourself and others safe. For now, you should rigorously follow the social distancing advice in full, outlined below.
People falling into this group are those who may be at particular risk due to complex health problems such as:
people who have received an organ transplant and remain on ongoing immunosuppression medication
people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radiotherapy
people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia who are at any stage of treatment
people with severe chest conditions such as cystic fibrosis or severe asthma (requiring hospital admissions or courses of steroid tablets)
people with severe diseases of body systems, such as severe kidney disease (dialysis)”
So, no going out to socialize in pubs, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, because these places are now closed but some may be opened again soon by 4th July 2020 (although I don't know how the social distancing will work). Public transport isn't safe either although it's now compulsory to wear a mask if traveling on buses, tubes, and trains. My view is to avoid any kind of crowded place except for the supermarket, chemist, or work if you are worried or if you have a health condition that makes coronavirus worse if you get it.

Will things get worse for us? Of course, it will!

Shops in England were shut for a long time but now they are re-opening and people with health conditions have started to worry. I am diabetic and it is also a worry for me. My husband has severe asthma and chronic high blood pressure which is another worry for us.

But what if you have to go out to work because you are an emergency worker who works for the Fire Service, Police, or the NHS? Did you carry on working or stay at home?

The lockdown in England is gradually lifting but we must not go near others unless we are social distancing by two meters. So, take care when going to public places like beaches or parks because the coronavirus is still around and you can still catch it. Don't think the virus won't come to you or your family because it could! If people don't stop socializing on beaches and park areas there will be problems down the line!

It is a big worry for many of us all over the world. Let’s hope this clears up soon and doesn’t go on years!

So, keep safe everyone!
